I was at my LCS last Friday and I almost bought a 1945 Dos Pesos gold coin but I bought silver instead. So I was thinking about it this weekend and wish I got it. I went back today and he said he had sold it right after I left that day. I was pretty bummed out and had my heart set on getting my first gold coin. He had some eagles 1/10 oz to 1 oz, but I didn't want to pay too high of a premium on the 1/10 and don't have the disposable income for a 1 oz. He said I have something smaller and pulled out a 1982 British Virgin Islands $25 gold coin. Being that my birth year was 1982 I thought it was a sign to buy one. It isn't the most elaborate of gold coins, but it is my first and at $48 I think I got it for a real good price.
BTW, When you sell gold, the dealers often pay more for American Eagles, Maple Leafs, K-Rands, etc. These are known gold bullion coins. Often when you sell lesser known coins, the dealer's buy-price may be discounted. For example, I had some beautiful Canada music commemorative gold coins & I got less for them than I did the Canada Maple Leafs. It's something that can happen when you sell.
There is a cash for gold place the next town over from me. They sell any denomination of AGE at only 5% over melt, however they go so fast when they get them I can never snag one especially with gold going down. I am looking to buy some 1/10 or 1/4 AGE when I can get them for a good price. I just have to be patient until I can get one from them. I looked on eBay before and after I bought the $25 British Virgin Island coins and saw many that sold well over what I bought mine for. If I do decide to sell is some day, which would be a while or maybe never being my first gold coin, I am guess I could make a few bucks on it when/if gold goes real high or for the aggressive over paying eBay crowd.
Regardless of the amount of gold in the coin, it's beautiful, you like it, that's all that should matter! But I agree with Bilssskr, gold fever can catch on quick!
With the price of gold going down a bit the gold fever set in a little already haha. I am going to get a 1/10 AGE next. I have the money just want to find a good price.
Good looking gold coin, makes me think about my first gold, exciting huh? If gold drops more it may be a good chance to get more.
It is a great gold coin indeed. I would like to think about the time when i first bought my gold coin. Thanks for sharing with us. ___________________________ Best Gold Investment Advice
