hello my name is jason, i have just started collection coins, its been very exciting so far, have found a "In God We Rust" kansas quarter so far and just over whelmed with wanting to go through more rolls ! hoping i can get some starter hints from of you more experienced searchers, im trying to learn as much as i can about different collectibles. but any advice on things like junk** coins, return them and buy new rolls ? keepers that are more common, rare mints and dates ? still learning but kno a little about war coins and silver but thats about it. any help would be amazing ! thanks in advance, jason
What are you focusing on? Trying to collect date/mint mark sets, pulling silver out, certain denominations? With a little more detail on what you want to do, people can give you more information.
If you are getting rolls from a bank, have an account there and be pleasant to the tellers. Look at the mintage numbers for the coins you are going after. Here are Jefferson nickels: http://jeffersonnickelguide.com/jefferson-nickel-mintage/
wow thanks for that blaster i just got 3 rolls of nickels today, maybe some good luck in there ! but what my goal is, is basically interesting coins really, silver is cool , i have found a coupl;e die press state quarter errors so far. still working on taking pictures so any advice on that would be helpful lol but any other sites like the one posted above would be appreciated, i havent been able to locate on my own such informative sites. now i have to go back and check all my nickels lol !
http://www.lincolncentresource.com/ is pretty good for cent stuff. I tend to find the more interesting stuff in penny and nickel rolls. Wheats, Buffalos, foreigns, silver wars, etc... Dimes have been bad for me. Quarters don't produce much of anything for me. I'm basically going through them to try and get a full ATB set. Still missing two. As soon as I get them I'll be done with quarters. Always be pleasant to the tellers. ESPECIALLY if you don't have an account there. I've gotten in good with a few tellers at different banks that I don't have accounts with. They know that but still sell me coins. I think it helps to be super nice to them.
yea i am always willing to wait till the line is gone to have them run around for rolls. i live in maine and people here are always nice. i just sat down and rolled 90 dollars in presidential dollars and others with the teller at one of my local banks. ive been going through the quarters mainly for error state quarters, only really have found a couple noticeable filled grease press (or something like that) still new and learning what each fault is called thanks for the website on the pennies ! thats my next roll, gonna be a long night when i get a bunch
have one quick question, is there some way to get the "crud" off of coins without damaging value ? i dont have valuable coins but the ones i want to keep i want to be clean at least : )
It always pays to be nice. I brought my tellers coffee and donuts on Saturday as a way to say thank you for them going out of their way to help me. They were really appreciative and said they'd hold anything they thought was cool for me. Hopefully it'll pay off.
