I don't have a camera, thus I cannot take a picture because my sister used it in her trip to Cleveland and will not be back for two days. I have an 1897 S Morgan dollar with lots of toning on it so it looks rainbow, but one distinct feature was that it had a proof-like background. It is in great condition, LIBERTY is completely clear, all strands of hair bold, all feathers on eagle are visible, you can even see the little fletch marks on the back of the arrows in the eagle's palm. The main question is: Is this a proof coin? I took a 1921 Morgan silver dollar in MS 62 condition and compared backgrounds, and the 1897-S was again, like i said proof-like in the background. it doesn't appear to be polished in any way. However, i did a search on 1897-S proofs for Morgans, and it came to no avail. Can someone tell me what this is?
When you can post a pic we can tell more. But it is not unusual for business strike Morgans to have Proof like qualities.
It looks VERY similar to this coin, but it listed this one as PL, does this mean mine is probably Proof-like?
