Hello Everyone. My interest in coins has been sparked by going thu "Grandma's Coin Can". I have two coins I have questions about. 1. 1916 French 10C coin. All the online examples I have found have a "double Cross" stamped on the back. My coin has no stamped cross? 2.1917 French "Rochefort Sur-Mer token. I can't seem to find a 10C coin online, only 5C coins? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom950
The cross is the "Cross of Lorraine." It was the symbol of the Free French during the Nazi occupation. This is what it should look like.
Thanks!! Does the cross effect any value? Do you have a clue to it's approx value or where I could find out? Thanks again for your help! Tom
On the other hand, knowing that it was used as a symbol of the French Resistance might make it desirable to some people. That is a common coin otherwise, but this makes it special. It might not have numismatic value but it makes it interesting in a different way.
People like me! LOVE that. Gorgeous coins and the counterstamp adds history. The 1917 were war tokens issued during WWI. Not sure on value.
It would add some value for someone who collects political counterstamps. I do, but only Irish and U.S. issues. Thanks for showing it Tom...never saw this one before. Bruce
