Geta Portraits

    Good article. In my case, I own a couple of early issue from 198-202, then a nice issue from 205 and my latest issue from 208. But none of these have him bearded. I think I may have to rectify that.

    My only geta.

    Its funny cause I never had the desire to buy him or caracalla in their child & teen forms. Always want just the 1 adult and thats it.

    Both of these wher probably issued in honor of Geta's 203 consulship. How are you distinguishing a 204 from other 203-208 coins?

    You can see his portrait develop on the same type in the same issue.

    Both coins share the same dating and attribution but you can see the development of the facial hair. The full bearded portrait doesn't appear until later coins.

    Obv:– P SEPTIMIVS GETA CAES, Bare headed, bearded, draped bust right
    Rev:– PONTIF COS II, Genius, naked standing left, sacrificing out of patera over lighted altar and holding corn ears
    Minted in Rome. early A.D. 209
    Reference:– BMC p.274, 584. RIC 59a. RSC 114. 72 examples in RD
