Welcome aboard...impatient huh? Lol couldn't resist. That is interesting. Is it indented on the cent or is it raised? Also, is there a "reversed" 2 on the other side in the same spot? It doesn't resemble a normal 2 in my opinion that is on any coinage, but I could he mistaken.
Thank you. It appears to be raised, but it is so light it disappears at certain angles. I can't find anything on the other side. I haven't found any coin numbers that resemble it either. It is a 1968 P
What's the odds it's a 'Jesus in the Grilled Cheese' type thing? I mean, clearly, we all see a two. Does that mean that there's a '2' there?
I tried rotating the coin to see if there was something else that would explain it. I left the camera in the same spot, just rotated the coin. I appreciate the feedback. I have had this coin for 7-8 years and none of the local shops had any ideas.
I believe its part of a secret code that will lead to a treasure trove under the Lincoln memorial! If you have Nick Cages cell # I could really use it.:thumb:
non cents is usually pretty good with these type of things, hopefully he will be able to share his thoughts
I would think its just one those incidents where random toning, (due to surface imperfections), create a pattern that our eye recognizes.
Good news and Bad news Well, i used my CSI skills to enhance the area in question. Good news is: I was able to determine what it is. Bad news is:
Interesting coin, but more than likely coincidental damage. It cannot be a clash because it does not line up (LIBERTY would be in that spot), and the image would be inverted. Maybe some object made contact with the coin in that area and gouged some metal. Keep up the hunt!
I don't know man, the image of the 2 is perfectly aligned inside the columns for it to have just been gouged. Taking some more looks at it, my guess is someone put it there, maybe by stamping it or some other means.
The only possible error like this would be a dropped element, but since there is no 2 on the obverse (the coin is a 1968), it can't be a genuine error, at least in my book.
I agree with you on that one, it has to be PMD of some sort. I just don't think it was a gouge, too perfect for that. I'm going to stick with that someone stamped that 2 in there.
