First two boxes of halves ever!

Finally, I was able to order two boxes of halves last Friday. I've been waiting to do this for a long time. I am supposed to be able to pick them up on Thursday. I am excited and curious to go through them. After reading many of the posts here, I see that some people have gone through 15 straight skunk boxes and then others have had some amazing boxes. I'm assuming my bank has not had other customers request this because they looked at me like I had two heads when I ordered them, hopefully that is a good sign. Just for fun, feel free to to guess how many "keepers" I get between the two boxes. I plan on keeping any coins that are silver, proofs, errors, foreign and any commemoratives, medals, tokens that may have found their way into the rolls. I probably won't get to start going through them until late Thursday night or Friday night. I will post updates (with pics if the boxes aren't skunks).

Lastly, for those of you who specialize in halves, are there any big errors I need to keep an eye out for. I've looked some online but just want to make sure I am not missing anything. Thanks everyone.

Welcome and I'm gonna guess worse case 1 silver, best case you have a beginners luck dream box with around 100 keepers so ill put my money on beginners luck and at least 7 silvers or a dream box

 

That would definitely work for me, I am hoping to be struck by some beginners luck with the halves.

 

My first two boxes of dimes yielded (1) 61 roosie. It can get lonely, but a score is pretty awesome. Lately I've been working on my Lincoln set and copper penny hoard. There's more "action" in pennies, but silver pays. Good luck and have fun.

 

Thanks sportpak I appreciate. I usually pennies and nickels myself. Definitely anxious to try the halves. I've only found a couple 40%'s from teller trays, and the rolls in my area (when any of the banks actually have any) have been skunks. Hoping the boxes change up the luck with them a bit.

 

I finished my first box of halves a few weeks ago with nothing.

Thanks guys, I definitely have not had luck asking banks for rolls of halves. Fingers crossed boxes do the trick. I'll be dreaming of enders and benders the next few nights.

 

I just called 12 banks before I found one that would do it. I am ordering my first box this coming Thursday and it will take about a week to get it. Good Luck to you all! First time poster here too.

Just got a call from the bank and my halves came in today, a day earlier then expected I'll be going through some tonight and will post an update when I can.

Box #1 Results

Just finished box #1, no silver at all There were a lot of coins written on with marker which I thought was odd, especially a handful all from different rolls that had NY 12-12 on the reverse. I did find two 2012 D's, do any of you keep them because of the low mintage? The only semi interesting finds are in the pics below. Not that I'm keeping it, but I just thought it was different seeing the sticker for the pizza place on the one. The second pic I am wondering if it is just PMD or a struck through grease coin (I am not very familiar with struck through grease coins so any feedback on that would be appreciated). Last is a very impaired 1979 proof. It looks to be the filled S to me so not worth much to begin with. Is it worth keeping proofs that are in this bad of shape? Will post results from box 2 when that gets done.

 

Box #2 Results

2 40%'s a 66P and 68D. Was definitely hoping for better results between the two boxes, but at least they weren't both skunks so I gotta be happy about that.

 

That’s not bad. Like you said, at least they weren’t skunks. I am ordering my box today and it is supposed to be in next Wednesday. However, I may not be able to pick it up until Saturday. We’ll see. Anyway, keep at it! You have two more than you started with and it was a learning experience. If you are like me, you are extremely busy and need to manage your time wisely. So now you know how long it will take to hunt. Good luck on the next box/es.
