I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE SOFWARE PLEASE FORGIVE MY IIGNORENCE. I POSTED A BLOG YESTERDAY AND CAN'T SEE HOW TO REPLY OR THANK YOU ONE AND ALL FOR YOUR FEED BACK. I REALLY WANT THE NAME OF THAT REFERENCE BOOK. I HAVE ATTACHED THE TWO SETS MMs AND SIDE BY SIDE THEY ARE CLEARLY DIFFERENT MINT MARKS THAT IS IT APPEARS THEY COULDN'T OF BEEN MADE BY THE SAME DIE. BUT IS THIS JUST WISHFUL THINKING ? THE S ON THE LEFTSEEMS TO HAVE A SERIF OF SORTS WHILE THE ONE ON THE RIGHT SEEMS ROUNDED. BUT MY CONCERN IS NEITHER OF THESE MMs APPEARS TO HAVE A FLATTENED TOP LIKE IN THE FEW GOOD PICTURES I HAVE GOT TO SEE. I BELIEVED THERE WERE TWO TYPES BUT UNLESS THESE ARE BOTH THE SAME Ss ONE NEEDS TO BE A TYPE ONE AND THE OTHER A TYPE TWO OR ALAST WE HAVE A TYPE THREE FOR THESE 1981 PROOF SETS ?

the mint marks are different that I can see, but as far as t1 and t2 I can't say for certain.

These are clearer images of the type 1 and type 2 S for the 81 SBA proof.

Hey thanks for the feed back. I hope you will forgive and Ole mans ignorance. I first touched a p.c. 5 months ago. Had a stroke and found it much easier to use this net book as my one hand can span the key board and typed in caps, as it was easier being one handed. A lot more work this way but who wants to yell or be yelled at. As you see these two MMs are clearly different. I have looked at several type one and two MMs, and while the one is plainly a type one, the other is just as surely not a type one nor is it a type two. Is there a way you would try and definitively resolve this if the sets were yours ? My idea goes toward sending them to PCGS and let them resolve it ? THANKS for your feed back, really. Ron
