I RECENTLY GOT TWO 1981 PROOF SETS, WELL 15 VARIED YEARS AND NO THE 1997 PENNY HAD A BIG OLE s SMILING AT ME. BUT THE TWO 1981 SETS HAVE DIFFERENT MINT TYPES, SO I HAVE PICKED THE ONE I BELIEVE TO BE THE TYPE TWO S AND WOULD SURE LOVE SOME FEED BACK. THESE ARE MY FIRST PROOF COINS AND I AM AMAZED AT THE NUMBER OF ERRORS IN JUST THIS ONE SET. THE RESOURCES ON THIS TYPE ONE TYPE TWO ARE AT ODDS. BUT IF THE TWO SETS CLEARLY HAVE DIFFERENT TYPES OF Ss IT STANDS TO REASON ONE SET IS THE TYPE TWO. AND IF THAT IS THE CASE, IS A CLEAN PROOF SET REALLY WORTH 250.00 OR SO WITH THE TYPE TWO MINT MARK ? SO MANY OF THESE SETS HAVE COINS SO SPOTTED OR FOULED THEY ARE WORTHLESS. THANKS RUSTY WRENCHES....YEA THE GUY WITH THE FRIED CHICKEN SAC, (SMILE) THEIR ARE NONE SO BLIND AS THOSE WHO WON'T SEE.

Pretty sure it's a Type 1. The top-outer loop is too round.

On the Type 2, the top-outer loop flattens a bit.
