19/2 AD Septimius Severus' cavalry arrives to ensure victory over Clodius Albinus, who commits suicide; Severus tramples the body on horseback. After a brutal war, in which more than 100,000 men fought, Albinus thought he had won. Septimus Severus’ men and himself were forced into retreat when his cavalry arrived and routed the Gallic army. When Albinus saw that he wouldn’t be able to defeat Severus’ cavalry, he committed suicide. Septimus Severus allowed his men to mutilate the bodies of the dead, cut off Albinus’ head and had it sent to the Senate as a warning sign. He was the first child of Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa and Julia, Augustus’ granddaughter. Augustus had no heirs, so he decided to adopt Gaius and his brother Lucius in 17 BC. Gaius’ name was then changed to Gaius Julius Caesar. When he was nineteen, he was named consul and sent on a mission to Syria. In 3 AD, he was wounded and died on 21 February, 4 AD.
