1898 Indian Head Cent RPD?

    To me the 1 looks to have some minor repunching going on but I can't match it to one of the several in Rick Snow's book. The 1 looks a bit fat in some areas and that makes me think repunched. I don't know for sure. These varieties can drive you crazy.

    Yes, I am using a 10x loupe. Do you think it could be triple punched? I don't have any other 1898's to compare it to, but I do have a 1895. I don't know if the 8's and 9's are different on purpose or because the '98 is repunched. Here are pics.

    I have an extensive Indian head collection. I now see what you're talking about. I have plenty of reference books too. Give me a day or two and I'll get back with you.

    No, I do not think so. These dies deteriorate also and could be that.

    From the little knowledge I've gained, I'd say a deteriorated die as well.
