I'm surprised that the U.S. Mint hasn't thought about issuing a series honouring the Vice-Presidents of America (excluding those who succeeded or became President of America).

What do you think? Do you reckon that the U.S. Mint should issue a Vice-Presidential series as a companion to the series commemorating the Presidents & First Ladies of America?

Sure, Spiro Agnew...great...Dan Quayle...stupendous...Al Gore...Dick Cheney...oh yeah, and the other VP that shot someone while in office Aaron Burr? American heroes all...

How about we put out some for under secretary of agriculture?

Great minds think alike! The first names that came to my mind were Spiro Agnew and Dan Quayle. The Dan Quayle coin could have a picture of a "potatoe".

I don't want to see anymore real people on circulation coins. Stick them on the commemoratives and let it be. I like commems and I buy them for what they honor. I just don't think that we need to have it on our circulating coins. Wonder how those long past who don't get coins are feeling about it...

*Wavy lines and dream sequence music*

    (Scene 1 - The Afterlife Patriot's Club)

Nathan Hale: Let me buy you another ale, Pat. It's one of Sam's best batches yet.

Patrick Henry: Thanks, Nate. Sorry if I'm in a bad mood... just thinking about those darn coins going around down there. What's happened to our country? Remember when we had busty women on coins... now that was something worth looking at.

Hale: Yeah, I know. If those people only knew the truth. Well, buddy. I say if anyone belongs on a coin, it's you. That "Give me liberty or give me death" line... Brilliance!

Henry: Nah, son. It's you who should get the honor. Our first spy, captured and executed. To stand there boldly and proclaim, "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." That took stones, kid. Only 21 years young. I'm proud of you.

Samuel Adams: Here you go, men, another round of my finest... if I do say so myself. This one's on me.

Henry: Hey, did you hear about that time George destroyed the family cherry crop? They had to start growing hemp to survive. What a putz.

Hale: Yeah, what about the time Tom... wait, here they come. Hey, guys...

    *Fade back to today*

Nah, let's not insult anymore past heroes by exclusion. Let's put art on coins again.

Check, I agree with you. Real people, living or dead, belong on commemorative coins and not circulation coinage. There are many historical figures who deserve a place on a commemorative coin.

Unless it's such an attractive image, like Susan B. Anthony, that you simply cannot leave it off circulating coins.

Vice President John Nance Garner is most noted for saying, “the vice presidency wasn’t worth a warm bucket of spit.

Although "spit" became the historical version of his actual quote which was deemed inappropriate for the history books and as a slogan on a coin.

I concur wholeheartedly. We should return Lady Liberty to her proper place on our coinage.

Can you just imagine Dick Cheney's maniacal sneer looking up at you from the palm of your hand. Owoooo! That sent a shiver down my spine. VPs & Coins...A bad idea.

    Thats just funny.:D :D :D :D :D
I agree with others that lady liberty definitely needs a comeback on circulating coins. I think Washington is rolling in his grave knowing he's on the quarter. He was against portraits of the Monarchy on coinage, and did not want his face on a coin or statue from what I've read.

    Just a reminder---
I know that there are going to be Presidents on coins and that is one thing--- But I don't think there is a coin out there with a Vice President---so this thread could end up being political really fast---if you want to take it that far you will need to take it to the "Politics, Religion and World Events " Forum.

Gotta disagree with you on this one Speedy. No one is talking politics at all here. Just the ridiculousness of certain political figures on coins. Seems pretty well within the boundries of a coin discussion. You're beginning to get politically hypersensitive now that you are old enough to vote.

    Hey Moen
You are partly right--no one is talking Politics---I just thought it would be a good idea to post a reminder on the rules here---as you know this thread could go that way really fast....when talking about Presidents or Vice Presidents nobody likes them all and once they start to post about who they don't like someone is going to get mad and take the thread away from the topic.
I've been working in Politics for about 4 years and don't know much at all---all I know is that when an D and an R get together feathers can fly and friendships can go out the window----and here on CoinTalk we are here to talk about coins not poilitics :D ;)

We'll be careful not to let the seeds of political discontent grow in this garden of coins. :high5:

Just give the mint some time. within the next 100 years or so they may run low on ideas on how to sell coins and the vice presidents may become available.

Will there be coins in 100 years? There might not even be a US Mint since I doubt they would be permitted to engage in the business of selling commemoratives if there was no actual circulation coin production function.
