This is perhaps one of my best tips. The coin as I post this is at $1.54 and is a nice attractive coin which does not appear to be damaged and the environmental damage is within what I consider NORMAL for old copper. PCGS has a problem with old copper unless it's a well known collection. Now the kicker is that it is not the more common stemless S-131, but the S-133 and R5. That rarity ranking may be a tad high as I've seen several low grade specimens in the last few years and acquired a couple. But this is a nicer one.

    Have fun guys.

But ugggh! 6.5 days to go!
I agree PCGS tends to be harsh on early copper.

A little rough, but still not bad for an R5 coin.

I love these old copper coins. Something about the design and the fact that they date back nearly to the founding of our country. In my mind, it's a beautiful coin. I can easily overlook the damage.

I have concerns regarding the authenticity of this coin... Has anyone attributed it???

    Something looks off...

I agree.. something looks off... and my take from the photos is it has been cleaned a lot more than the 'light wipe' in the listing.

Cleaned I don't doubt. even still the detail is ef and in this case it's being started well below value even if it came back in a details holder. I will only add I was offered it at well below list because of condition but not this low. So unless you guys can tell me that it is truly a fake I'll probably still take a chance if it goes unbid on. As I said this is my local dealer and I don't believe he would knowingly list a fake and I know he had a lot more experienced in spotting them then me. Worst case he does accept returns.

Ill compare it to known die pairs today.

Yeah I think it's a counterfeit. I can not find any die pairs that match the 8 berries on the reverse. It looks to have 4 and 4. This was just a quick look... the more experienced guys might want to chime in...

There are 4 berries on left and 5 on the right. Look under the F in "OF" - so the corrosion is kind of hiding it.

    Mark,

Are you looking at the S-133 or mrweaseluv's link? LD is speaking about the latter.

I must agree; it is bad. My first hesitation was the overall look, but I did double check my available references to confirm this.

Sorry - not I did not notice the other link. But this was discussed on another forum today. Looks like a 4 and 4 variety also.

PS - I did send PCGS an email on this site. They also say fake pcgs slabs with fake coins.

Looks like someone already got the second auction pulled. Now home many other raw coins from the seller might have come from china.

Good deal. I have been trying to compare some of the other raw coins they have, but it seems like some of the pictures are not good enough for me to judge.

Than\ks for saving the pics, the auction got pulled before I got here. The 1803 was an obvious fake, not even close.
