Hi All, I am brand new to Cointalk and have some questions about some bills I got from my bank. I got a fairly large group of 2006A $100 star notes when I cashed a check about a year ago. Since I noticed they were star notes I kept them in my safe and made another withdrawal for the cash I needed. I have looking on the internet to find out about them and to see what they are worth with the idea of selling them. They are not only star notes but are also sequential with serial number KK01143119*. From I can see they are new with no folds, or tears, or signs of wear. However when I went to photogragh them for sale on Ebay I noticed that everyone of them had a $ sign stamp in blue on the back. I have never seen that before, Can anyone tell me what that means and how it affects their condition and value? Thanks
For modern series, uncirculated notes carry a collectors premium for the most part. Although it's harsh to say that a note torn in half has the same value as one with a stamp, it is true for the most part on modern notes. Some stamps are bank teller stamps that partially miss the paper strap. But it doesn't sound like those are the stamps that you have.
Hi All, I have listed 5 bills for sale on Ebay please take a look at the $ stamp mark on the backs of the bills if you are interested. Thanks
Businesses that handle a lot of paper $ and foreign countries that deal in the USD use stamps frequently. Not so much at banks. I have a ton of 1934-1950E FRNs that have been stamped. A shame, really, but nothing you can do. At least they were all picked up for face. I hate bringing myself to spend them, though. Especially the 1950Es.
No pics here because he wants folks to look at his eBay listings. Not a proper use of this forum, OP.
OP, if you want to advertise your eBay listing, there is a part of the sales forum for you to do that. Be forewarned - you must have over 10 posts on CT before you are allowed to do so.
I didn't intend to advertise the Ebay listing - it is just that my wife handles Ebay stuff and knows how to do pictures. Please accept my apologies and don't look at the listing. Now that she showed me how to add the picture, it is included in the thread. Sorry...
Please understand that it is quite common that new members come just to spam the board. Your posts looked like they fit that mold. It is, in fact, I that owe you an apology.
banks use plenty of stamps. the teller stamp is usually the one you see the most. when money is put together to ship out they stamp the straps which can also end up on the notes. i worked at a bank for many years and have seen all kinds of stamping going on in the branch.
Hi - was is interesting is that I have 80 bills in two sequences and all of them have these stamps. Thanks for your reply
