Newby on notes bought some fractional currency, hope it's real!

    I did do a bit of reading before I pressed the auction bid button and I know the ink signature turns from black to brown with age but that's about it.
    Paid $15 for each note. North Carolina 50c.

    Those look like the real deal to me, though I know little about their value. Sounds like a fair price in this condition.

    What is the "32" on the right side of the notes?
    If it's a serial number, why do both notes have the same number?

    Many obsoletes and believe most hand serialed Confederate currency was serialed by the sheet, not the note, so it's not unknown to find two notes with the same serial. I would imagine the plate numbers would be different, but, there you go...

    Ahh, thanks that makes sense. There were three with 32 written on them but different plate numbers. I bought two and the 3rd went too high so let it go.
