I have been searching rolls of 98-P, 99-P, and 00-P Lincoln Memorial Cents for the Wide AM error for well over 8 months and tonight I opened a sealed BU 98-P roll and went to work. 9 coins in from the end of the roll, there she was! A very nice (and rare) BU and upon flipping the coin to examine the reverse BAM! Clear as day was the object of my desire and search. Very easy to distinguish from the close AM (especially when you have examined as many as I have). Just to confirm I pulled out the 16x loupe and easily confirmed my find. Very clear seperation between the A and M in AMERICA, and the engraved FG initials at the bottom of the memorial are clearly much closer to the base of the memorial and clearly displays the shelf on the G, whereas the standard close AM does not exhibit such features. FINALLY! SOOO STOKED! Check the pictures to see the find and pictures of a standard close AM. Now a little help from my fellow members. What would this example be worth (ballpark), any thoughts on what it would grade out at, and lastly is it worth paying to have graded? Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
yep it's a WAM, but the rare date one is the 1999. From your pictures that cent looks like it's plated with something, but I'll assume in hand it looks normal. I wouldn't say it's worth more than $20.
I know the 99 is the real money coin. Trust me I have been through countless 99 rolls too. As you can see from the picture below, I am an equal opportunity Wide AM searcher... o and apologies for somewhat poor pictures... all the coins are superb and fully lustrous BUs, and the error coin in particular is in wonderful condition... no nicks, bagmarks, none of that. Just pure goodness. Anyone know if this particular error is readily and easily saleable?
Only the 1999's are easy to move, really... and easy is relative, most dealers won't touch them, and the majority of individuals want them slabbed (PCGS, for their registry sets) or not at all.
Fo sho! Even though its not the 99 Wide, it just feels great to finally find one after so much searching. It is something ill always remember.
