Last night, I was checking on the progress of the images for my ANA Convention medals, and I noticed something strange about the 1975 Los Angeles 19mm bronze medal. It was graded MS65 by NGC, and I'm sure the black splotches scattered about probably had something to do with that, but I noticed that the building in the center of the city skyline didn't look the same as those of the 38mm silver and bronze medals. About one-fourth of the way up the building, it appears to tilt slightly to the left rather than straight up and down like on the 38mm medals. The two smaller buildings, third and fourth from the right next to the freeway off-ramp seem to be tilted slightly as well. On the reverse of the medal, the central column of the mission just to the right of the belltower appears to be slightly crooked when compared to the 38mm medals. Is it possible that some time after the dies for the 38mm medals had already been completed there was an earthquake, the buildings were damaged, the black splotches are actually structural damage and the design of the 19mm medal dies were modified to reflect this damage? Hmm? Maybe I should resubmit this medal to NGC for grade review. Chris
It's as if someone applied a skewing function to the first coin. Very interesting! I have no idea, but I'll be interested in hearing what others say.
Keep in fact that black spot on the top of the coin in the wording, but gosh it really does look so strange!
its not a medal. it is a view finder to another interplanetary domention. do not try to adjust your screen hahahahaha
Reminded me of the movie The Omega Man with Charlton Heston driving in LA and there were no other cars on the roads
