Metal detecting old tree for old coins. I am a novice so it will take me a while. My neighborhood is very old.
Ooooooooh! Neat! I'd love to begin using a metal detector around the older places at my town, but that's in the middle of my town, and I'm bound to get some looks haha. That tree looks like it may hold some mysterious secrets!
Nice my town dates back to 1733 but I've yet to fully get out there and do some serious detecting, spend more time fishing lol. But I'm going to start bringing my detector when I go fishing as they used to cut down large pine trees and float them down the river in town until it reached the Merrimack river. From that point they floated them down the Merrimack to Newburyport, MA and the Atlantic ocean and then ship them over to England. In fact the major road cutting through my town is named 'Mast Road' because of this history as the large trees got used as ships masts.
From experience older trees in yards are a great place to find lost coins. I had an old elm tree in the backyard of my old house that yielded 8 wheat cents dating as far back as 1917.
