A new greek I recently picked up. Ive always liked this type. SELEUCID KINGS, ANTIOCHOS VII 138-129BC AE18 O: Winged bust of Eros right. R: BASILEWS ANTIOCOU, Headdress of Isis with legend on either side and date in ex. Antioch Size: 18mm Weight: 6.4gms SNG cop 326
Great eye-appeal on that coin, and a nice thick flan at 6.4g and only 18mm. I'm so used to my skinny Romans.
Greek coins are cool that way. I do like their thickness. I think the ultra thinness of most medieval coins is one of the things that really turns me off about them. To me, LRB is about as thin as a coin should get.
I agree, just like this coin I posted last week: http://www.cointalk.com/t222511/ Its like tin foil. Still its neat for what it is.
I once owned a wafer-thin silver medieval coin, a Sigismund grosch or something (I forget), and I had exactly the same reaction: this isn't a coin, it's tinfoil.
You guys would NOT like 12th century bracteates. They make regular medieval deniers look like cartwheels: GERMANY, Mühlhausen (kaiserliche Münzstätte). Philip von Schwaben. 1198-1208. AR Bracteate (47mm, 0.77 g). Struck under Hermann von Thüringen, 1199-1204. Philip riding left, holding banner and shield; globus cruciger to left, pellets around. Bonhoff 1213; Löbbecke 704-5; Kestner -.
Interesting ANTIOCHOS VII Mat. I haven't gotten into the Seleucid coins, but I find them interesting. Good catch.

Nice Mat! Yeah, my Seleucid coin feels allot heavier than it looks too. Same with a few other AE greeks i have.
