EDIT: Bought it anyway. It's one of the types I need for my World Silver so I can check it off the list and that in itself is fun. Does this look cleaned? It's on VCoins and thinking about purchasing it. Here is the link if the picture is too small. http://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/coi...republic_ar_1_sol_1872_xf/333725/Default.aspx
It doesn't look whizzed or scrubbed. If it's been dipped and since retoned, I don't think that's much of an issue. Lot's of 19th-century coins got that treatment. It looks like a scan as well - I'm willing to bet the coin looks much better in real life.
Looks like its sold, did you buy it? But from the picture it looks scanned so its hard to tell if its been cleaned. Also, I don't know if its overpriced or not, I picked one up in XF-AU condition for $30 a little while back.
It would be considered it "market acceptable", to be more vague... Your photos suggest a coin with 2/3rds of its original skin, IMHO. Determining how severe the cleaning was would require examining the coin in-hand. But judging by the photos, it wasn't harsh.
It is a bit overpriced but I find many coins on VCoins to be so. There are no coin shops or coin shows for hundreds of miles of me so I don't mind paying more + shipping to save gas and time. I'll post "real" pictures when I get it thanks for all the feedback.
