I dropped off of RCC - rec.collecting.coins for nearly 7 months, I looked very occasionally but after a while you get kind of tired of the same rehash talk about religions politics etc, that don't belong on coin forums.

I have been aware of cointalk for some time, looked occasionally and only recently dipped into this pool. So far I like what I see.

Welcome to Coin Talk Krasnaya. Understand you like to collect Russian and Ancient Greek coins. All great coins and very interesting selections. Hope you will like it here on the forum and we hope to learn something about the coins you collect.
    Welcome...[IMG]

Let them say goodbye the people on this forum are great I feel better talking to them then my own family. I dont think i will ever leave cointalk but if for some terrible reason I had to I would like a thread to say "you guys are awsome, I will never forget all of you good luck and happy collecting" something like that just to say my final goodbyes

I didn't officially vote since I'm not sure exactly where this would be the best fit.

Although it creates more work for the moderators, I think a case by case basis is the appropriate approach.

There are legitimate cases in which an active member needs to leave, at least for a while, and I think it's better to allow that to help avoid the "What ever happened to x" threads.

A recent member with only a few posts would get a lot less consideration in my opinion, depending on the tone of the posts that preceded the goodbye.

on another Main coin forum, there are no goodbye threads, people love it there.

I did a goodbye post on this forum and left this forum (except maybe 5 posts) because of the meaness of some people here, the favoritism showed here, the censorship here, and the lying by a moderator here.

I use to post nice coin photos and usefull information here, but I chose not because of the above reasons.

I still look for information here, but it is no longer where I come first if at all.

So I am a Queen? Thank you Peter for your nice characterization about all that leave. Every single of us were just drama queens and have no real point of view? No real reasons to leave? Were treated faily? Were
not called disparaging names? were not LIED to?????

    so goodbye. again.

    will this post be deleted????????

I say leave it, I dont care for drama but I am more against moderators deleting posts that arent obscene. I am for a free flow of ideas and so far since I have been here I have seen nothing that is regularly posted here that I would label as something that would make me feel I need to leave...can I ask for just a run down of reasons why people felt the need to leave? This forum is so very tame compared to some I have seen I cant imagine what might have made people leave save that they disagree with some of the more pompous members here. I think ANYONE who cant keep a civil tone should be warned and banned...I can not imagine what COIN or NUMMUS related topics that would require a person to be insulting to ANYONE. If you are going to be insulting...I think its best to remove the person.

The only time I see a need for something to be moderated is if people are spread non-coin related personal agendas...if people are preaching at people about things like religion, politics, lifestyles, etc...

Even with disagreements having to do with coins (like cleaning threads) I can see a persons point and not go running away because someone wont agree with me or because there are differences...I have noticed some people here are pompous and seem to think they are the last word on all things related to numismatics and lack the ability to express themselves in a very civil manner but I will ignore those things and continue to discuss a topic...I will annoy them because for every time they insist a personal opinion is the only way...I will simply restate that it isnt...we will go round and round until we both give up :)

So no...I wouldnt delete a goodbye thread unless it is insulting, obscene, etc...Let them have their last say and if people dont like it they dont have to read it and it will sink rather quickly, if they bring up valid points, maybe they can be addressed...I havent seen one so I dont know what they are like though I have seen them on other forums and usually they are irrational, showing intolence and an insistance that people do things their way, and a bit amusing.

I think no thread but obcene and extreme off topic posts should be deleted including the one about Aidenwork :)

Edit: Also I think moderators should be helpfull and friendly, there is no reason for them not to join in and give opinions but they should not be abrasive, rude or insulting. They should be like anyone else and if they cannot keep a civil tone then they probably shouldnt be representing this forum. They should be above petty crap and know how to communicate in a non-abrassive way.

We can only hope.. :hail: :D ;) HAHA!

Anyway, if it's a "melodrama" good-bye, I say nuke it. They always come back. Just a matter of time. But I have exercised my right to not vote in this old poll. :p

Why do you think they come back, just to see if they were loved ¿

I'm kind of new here but if you allow and make a place for saying "hello", then its sure seem right that the same thing should be shown for someone who wants to say ''goodby''.
It's not necessary for anyone else to post their goodby's to the individual, but simply a manner of letting the other posters know thay are leaving.

Is this a big problem with people leaving, or what ??

No, but sometimes people get their toes stepped on for one reason or another and throw a fit. Instead of being adult about it, they rant and rave and try to get other people to sympathize with them.

Often, they'll return and lurk around to see if anyone is in agreement with them (most are not). Sometimes they'll create a new screenname and it's back to business as usual. And then sometimes they'll return and make more childish accusations.

If anyone wants to leave, just leave. No one is forcing you to click that mouse for this site. Now, I see nothing wrong with saying something like, "Hi, folks... I've decided to take a 'leave of absence' from the forum for the foreseeable future". That way, we're not wondering if you just dropped off the face of the planet.

Anyway, when you leave in a huff, most members don't know about it and really couldn't care less about it. There's no need for a long-winded, drawn-out, woe-is-me, my-feelings-are-hurt, dramatic departure.

And, yes, those people ARE drama queens!!!!

    goodbye threads?!?

Geez, I guess I'm new around here, but I'm been actively surfing since before the WWW and when it was NewGroups and Freenets, so I am thoroughly familiar with trolling tactics.

Goodbye threads should be deleted as they serve no valid purpose. If someone is unhappy with the board, they should work constructively to make appropriate changes. If they're unhappy with another poster, they should take it to email and work it out.

Saying Goodbye, I'm leaving accomplishes nothing other than to stomp out of the room and slam the door. It's boorish and bad-mannered.

    peace,

    rono

Goodbye...Comon, you have to be kidding me. Once you are immeresed within this hobby it is like a deep addiction. So is Coin Talk!! They may say they are leaving, but in reality..well we all know what a Troll is right?

This is a great fourm with some well versed folks in it. I doubt that anyone who gets a temper tantrum and leaves for whatever reason, will return even if it is under a new name. I say we do not need a goodbye cruel world entry on the fourm. Besides..with all the crying going on, the cost of tissues alone would amount to some gold for my collection....LOL

For God's sake lets be adult here. This is a great place..lets keep it that way!!:high5:

I think that goodbye threads should be deleted after a few days,as a majority of those who post such threads are real drama queens & real hypochondriacs.

As for the idea of me leaving - that won't happen for the foreseeable future.

    Aidan.

Delete them, Peter you have more important things to do with your time then baby sit someone with issue about this sit. If I leave cointalk because of say a health reason I will PM the people I think should know. There are alot of forums out there we just don't need people with issues here cut them loose.

doesnt it take more effort to delete them than to just ignore them and let them sink to the bottom? Then those people who wish to read what they have to say can and those who dont care can ignore it? Or is it that the true drama queens could not let it go without comment and it would then disrupt the forums. I would think any forum is better when there isnt a heavy handed moderator making a choice as to what we should and shouldnt be reading (save of course obvious trolling and obscene or extreme off topic posts). This thread is a great example, he seems to care about what we want and thats good. Nobody wants someone pre-reading and deciding what they should and shouldnt be allowed to read...Nazi admins are a good way of ruining a discussion and free flow of opinions and ideas...

If a person is leaving this forum because they have a specific problem then maybe it would be good to hear it and let us decide on our own if the opinions expressed are valid or not? Maybe there is a real problem that could be address that might cause others to want to leave as well and might harm the success of the forum...I have been a forum ***** for long enough to know that indeed there can be those who can be a real problem and can damage the reputation of a forum and make people not want to use it.

I have run forums in the past and I would allow such threads because some of them have made valid points (and I disdain heavy handed deletion of threads), case in point: I had a person who announced he was leaving my forum because an admin I appointed was being an ass and making the forum unattractive to people and thus harming the popularity of the forum. As I was no longer terribly active on the forum I was unaware what this person was doing and to the relief of many I removed the admin and all was good.

whether one would like to admit it or not, there can be times when these people might have valid points and they might just not have gone about making these problems clear...in this case, because the offender was an admin and it was not terribly obvious how to get in touch with me they became frustrated and decided to leave with one last attempt at announcing the problem and I happened to see this post before the offensive admin could remove it. OThers had left without comment because of this person and if they had instead made a stink about it I might have been able to deal with the problem before half the regulars moved on. Everyone with a problem is not a drama queen. Just my 2 centimes, probably not worth one.
