1973 penny error or pmd?

    I was going to say PMD, and then I saw the reverse. I'm speechless. I've never seen a coin that resembles a knotted tree. Sorry I can't be of much assistance, but I believe it is PMD. The more experienced will chime in at some point, don't worry.

    Thanks for the response. I can't seem to get a good picture of the rim, But looking at the reverse its pretty much normal thickness except at 5-6 o'clock its gets thin. 7 o'clock returns to normal thickness with another thin spot at 9 o'clock then back to normal thickness.

    I'd say either acid or extreme heat. pmd

    My guess would be heat exposure, but damage nonetheless.

    It may have been used to replace a blown fuse. (Been there. Done that.) Enough current flowing through a bronze cent might cause some melting.
