So I am thinking of buying a raw gold coin for my collection, but I can't decide if I want to get an AU, cleaned double eagle for $1700 or an AGE for around the same.

I'm well aware that the double isn't 1oz, but I'm not so sure if 1700 for it is too much, as it is cleaned and has a few scratches..

What do you think would be the better buy? I'm NOT looking to keep this pristine or to get slabbed, but something that I can put in my pocket and show my family "This is gold looksee!"

And on a totally unrelated note, does anyone have a photo of a double and an AGE side by size?

    Thanks :D

You're comparing bullion gold to numismatic gold essentially. All I can say is that if you want a double eagle but don't care if its details or what not, i'd wait to save for a non-damaged better one.
