It looks similar to the symbols on Iranian coins. Some of thier coins looked hammered up to the early 1800's, I'm not even sure if it is real. If it isn't I would think it would be holed or ringed. Has the look of gold but they also used Bronze and Bronze/aluminum combo. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
No one? I stoped and asked a guy working at a local store but he was from Pakistan and told me it is a whole different language than his and had no idea.
Is there no western date information on it? If not, this coin probably was not used for outside trade. I really have no idea what I'm talking about...but you got me curious enough to investigate... Check out the really really old Afghanistan coins at http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces30306.html
I believe it's an Iranian wedding token. Some similar items here: http://users.pullman.com/fjstevens/tokens/ArrasTokens/IranTokens.html
DCH, you found it! I would say it's a perfect match, I am sorry to see it's not worth anything but not knowing was killing me. I guess it is Brass since I don't believe they would throw gold around. I didn't pay much at all- thank god.
