OK FIRST COIN I do not know what the heck this is on his face but also has a small spot behind head Whats going on here? Next one seems to have a tail or another spot behind head thats sticks up any idea's???
Looks like some kind of "stuff" on these coins. To see them better, perhaps try soaking them in water for a couple of days followed by a distilled water rinse and a pat-down with a cotton towel, then you might be able to see more.
Nope not found together, You almost have to see them to see what the heck is going on I can soak them but I do not believe there is any gunk or anything its damage from something the yellowing you see is copper.
The 74 is covered with some kind of glue. The 83 has some kind of residue on it. A good soak in acetone will reveal that there is nothing special about your coins.
Wait, I think I have changed my mind. I have never seen such a valuable error as these two. I recommend you send them off and have them authenticated.
Why be an A%% None of you can look through what I said do not worry about the what ever on the face and tell me what caused the 2 little oblong indents behind the head??? I mean for folks with your kind of experiences it should be easy I would think!! Like chipped die maybe? Worn doe Something stuck in die? But no we all have to be smart ___ you know what?? This is supposed to be a learning site and a family site but lately there is so much sarcasm and such. You have young people visiting and asking questions you know? a few oF you need to wise up IN MY OPINION !! NEVER MIND RANT OVER!!
I can't speak for anyone else, but I am not trying to be snarky with you. What I see is what I see. I will not tell you I see what you want me to see. Ever. I am just not seeing what you are seeing. Perhaps better pictures will make a difference. I will offer no apologies for bruising your tender little ego with the truth.
Apologize for snarkiness. Too often someone asks for advice and then procedes to tell forum members what they want to hear. The defects you are asking about are not particularly visible in the photos you attached. You asked "What's going on here" and people responded to what they could see. Take a look at some of the other threads and notice that the pictures are more in focus. To see something small, you either have to have it in-hand or have good focused pictures. I honestly think that cleaning would help us to see what you have. If there is some small mark, it could be a die defect or an inclusion during the striking. Try the cleaning and post some more pictures. The other option would be to take it to a shop.
74 looks like a something was on the die when it struck the coin, maybe a piece of debris or something. And there is a lot of glue on his face. As for the 83, your surely gonna need better pictures.
Why not tone down the lighting at the same time you tone down the attitude. You are getting exactly what you asked for in the OP, opinions. If it's not what you want to hear, that's too bad as the members who have responded are not going to give an opinion that you want given if their opinion differs. What it's all boiling down to for both halves, PMD, no error(s) no value other than face.
apology accepted, And I am sorry for unloading on You as well. It just seems every time I post and want to learn I get ,everything but!!! People that say a coin is worthless spend it when it is in fact not, Or folks posting to raise there post content, or Sarcasm . I can see where the second pic did not show what I wanted. and the top one did but was over looked because of the gunk or what ever. I guess I was looking for a simple yes I see what you are saying or No We CANT SEE IT PLEASE TRY A BETTER PIC OR ANGLE and we will look again. I am trying to get as much info as possible about the coins I find searching so as my young Grandson can look at them when he is older and say oh this is this or that? Not that I care what any are really worth because they are going to my Grandson or grand children some day. It just seems that almost every post has to have a money sign attached to it. When that's not what I am about , i am just trying to figure out the minting process and decide what happens to make some of these coin odd like this. JON
It does seem like most new posts are "I have found the most amazing coin in the known universe and am about to sell it for $7 billion dollars and want everyone to approve it". I think all the serial posters really enjoy and love coins and are willing to help knowledge seekers. Now, did the water do anything and did you get closer and more focused pictures so we can see what is going on?
