If that is a gravestone like I think it is, absolutely not. It is disrespectful to the dead. You can metal detect in other places like old parks and gathering places.

Stealing coins off the eyes of the departed, huh? Prepare to dig deep. About 6 feet.

Is this area a cemetary? If so, NO! Do not metal detect there. Disrespectful to the dead, regardless of the size of the area.

I say go for it..........why not right? Keep us updated and let us know if anything spooky happens afterwards. Seriously though, I wouldnt see a problem as long as you arent trying to detect directly overtop of the grave. I mean its like saying dont go and metal detect that indian burial site, or stay away from that civil war battlefield, and good lord dont go and try to salvage a sunken ship like the Titanic or anything. The people are already dead and as long as you have permission and arent like blatantly and directly disrespecting the actual final resting place, well like i said.......go for it

In many if not most places, metal detecting in cemeteries is illegal. It doesn’t make much sense to risk an entanglement with the law over a few coins or relics. Additionally, historical cemeteries may be protected by additional historical places laws.

    Check PA laws...

Don't do it in a cemeraty...

Do it in old lots that used to have homes.

There is a HUGE hillside near my house that used to be packed with houses in the 1900s.. I just need a metal detector to find a ton of nails and other metal bits. :D
