The legislation that authorized the ATB quarters specifies that once the program ends the reverse will be Washington crossing the Delaware.
While I can fully understand your intent, I also believe that you would NOT be happy with the end product after the US Mint applied their "high production/low relief" design characteristics to the coins. Today, they simply cannot or will not produce/achieve the level of design required for the truly beautiful coin designs of yesteryear!
It's already been done: http://www.coinfacts.com/quarter_dollars/50_states_quarters/new_jersey.htm I'm not too keen on a post-ATB design already being determined once the program ends. I think it should wait until towards the end of the program at which point a contest open to the public could be done with the best design being chosen.
Interesting. Unfortunate, but still interesting. Do you know if the design will be another rehashing of Leutze's painting, or if a new/different representation will be used?
My bet would be that since they are still either 5 or 16 years away from needing the new design they haven't started sketching it out yet. I would expect a reinterpretation of the design, even if they did use the basic NJ quarter design the inscriptions would still be different.
Still plenty of time to change this legislation. Hard to believe we won’t see another cash cow commemorative program or, if not, maybe traction will be gained to start getting rid of the dead presidents. I didn’t care for these scoundrel politicians when they were alive – why would I want to commemorate them?
I've heard a rumor that it'll revert to Washington with Washington crossing the Delaware on the reverse. it was in some legislation thing I think.
I can't be certain, but I seem to think I remember reading that somewhere on this forum recently, but probably not in this thread.
If this is true, and it kind of makes sense, I hope they do a redesign and not just copy/paste the state quarter design.
You probably have, the question comes up regularly and I have posted the information in those other threads before. Sure things can always be changed. But we can't say with any authority what the laws will be changed to years from now, all we can say is what the current plan is.
