I purchased this coin yesterday at the Long Beach Coin Expo, this is a 1930 P. I am aware that this series is known for having weak strikes so even MS examples don't always get the "Full Head" designation. This coin is blast white in hand. These pictures are from a phone they don't get much clearer than this. What is the grade of this coin and approximate value? I'll post what I paid after a few responses. This is my first SLQ that is not a junk silver one. :)

I don't know why my phone made sideways pictures. Also wanted to add that I'm fairly confident being able to spot cleaned coins and this doesn't appear to be one. Maybe dipped since it's so white.

I'm already afraid of what you paid for that, is probably one of the nicest SLQs I've seen

Hey thanks! Miss Liberty appreciates the compliment.

Based on those photos, I am going to say MS63 worth around $200. There is no way to determine FH from those photos and if the coin is blast white it probably has been dipped. Tough to tell the luster profile from those photos as well. It is a nice coin but I would not recommend collecting this series in the uncirculated grades through raw coins. While you may have done well this time, you are playing a dangerous game with an expensive series.

I'm also posting from a phone, but only because we lost our Internet service from the recent snowstorm. Therefore, take what I write with a dose of skepticism. The coin looks on my phone like a dipped AU.

I'm 99% sure it's dipped. :( What would be the approximate value of this?

Ok everyone, I paid $100 for this coin. Any thoughts?

I think that if you love the coin - which is how it seems - the amount you paid wasn't unreasonable. I think if you should change your mind it will be relatively easy to unload at a price close to what you paid. I think the determination on whether you got a sweet deal has to be made in hand (if it's an AU/MS? with a dip?)

It's a beautiful coin - and if you're cool with how much you paid for it, I think you did well. There are a great many other ways to spend $100 that would be more questionable... :)

    Just my two cents!

AU cleaned at best. i hope that you did not spend too much money on this coin, because i don't think that any grading service would grade the coin any higher than AU cleaned.
