While browsing eBay today i noticed this slab as being a little off. Maybe its just me what do you guys think??? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1978-USA-EI...90?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item19d8bd259e
Not sure, but doesn't look right. I would ask why not make it a 66 or 67 if you're going to try to pawn off an Ike, but i guess everyone is trying to make a buck and maybe they think they are less likely to raise eyebrows with a lower grade.
Think it's OK just a scanned image, scanners don't do very well with slabs too much light. Edit to add. Bar code is on the reverse.
There is a bar code on the back but i have never seen that on PCGS slabs although it looks to have been sent in on a bulk submission. Also the font seems to be off look at the stem of the 6 in MS65?
The slab is real. For a short time in the early 2000s, PCGS used this holder type that included a barcode on the back. Later deemed impractical, they moved the barcode to the obverse side.
Yes they did the reverse bar code on that old series of slabs it's not anyway near new if I remember right that series is from the 1990's. I don't have a link to Condor generations anymore but I have owned several of those type of slabs in the past.
Thank you for satisfying my curiosity, i have never seen anything like it so it never hurts to ask i wasnt even planning to purchase it. The slab just jumped out at me in the search results as funny looking.....
Here's your link; http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=222533 And a quote from Conder101,

"PCGS 8 - These are the same style as PCGS 6 but now the Coin and Series numbers have been added. Again this type was only used for circulation type coins (and proofs) until mid 2001 when Classic Commems also started appearing in this slab. The PCGS 8 slab continued in production until Feb 2002."

And an image of the holder he is referencing in this statement, which is identical to the OP's
This is a PCGS 8 holder with the barcode on the reverse. They were used from approximately October 1998 through February 2002. PCGS has appeared to be inconsistent with the use of "S" in front of the denomination and in this case I believe it is used on one coin because it is a 40% silver coin while the other has no notation because it is clad.
