Y#25, 13.48g of .800 silver, slightly over 1/3 ounce of pure silver, Meiji 38 (1905), mintage 9,566,100 (approximately one-half of the total 5-year series mintage).

If genuine, it should bring $12-15 on EBay, which isn't much premium over melt.

The fields concern me as they seem to show some of the graininess you would expect to see on a cast piece. Check the weight, the diameter (30mm), and whether or not a magnet will grab it.

Just a thought, but if this is a detecting find, you would expect some graininess, wouldn't you?

Yes, sometimes corrosion shows up that way. That's why I said "concerned" without necessarily being convinced it's a fake. I just can't tell from the pictures.

Any local jewelry store would undoubtedly weigh it for you. They could also probably measure it if you don't have a way to do that either, although since 30mm is just a tiny bit less than 1-1/4", you can come very close with an ordinary ruler, yardstick, or measuring tape.
