I am wondering if anyone knows the value of 2003 uncirculated Vatican Euros? Reputable place they could be purchased?
The sets are available on the secondary market - but they are not cheap. The last set I looked at was priced at nearly $2,000.00.

Hi, The Vatican set 2003 is rather cheap in contrast to the Vatican 2002 set. The 2002 set is sold at prices around 850 - 1000 euro. The 2003 set however can easily be found for prices around 500 - 600 euro. Still a quite high price if you know the issue price was somewhere around 18 euro Regards, Davy.

Kevin: The best place to buy them is at ebay, the price for the 2003 is going higher each week. I have three of this sets, but I am waiting the best prize to sell them. Last Year I sold my two 2002 euro coin set at USD 850 each at Ebay in november 2002. The only way to purchase is to be register at the Numismatic Office of the Vatican City, I was lucky to travell to Italy in the year 2000 and get a registration. From this year you are only able to purchase Vatican Euro coins sending via airmail the original purchase order they send each year to every registered collector. Regards, Guillermo

Don't think this is a question of cheating but, quite simply, of availability. You can relatively easily collect Irish euro coins from circulation (directly or by swapping). So collectors who just want to have one coin from each country, denomination, and maybe year/mint, do not have to buy BU sets in order to get the Irish coins. In the case of the Vatican (and also MC + SM) pieces getting such a complete set from circulation is much more difficult if not impossible. In other words, if you want to have all of Vatican's euro coins, you have to buy a set. Another possible reason for the price difference is that some people do not collect "by year" but "by design". The Irish coins will have the harp on the back for many years. Most coins from the monarchies, however, and also those from the Vatican, show the current head of state ... Christian

Just got a brochure from the UFN, about this year's circulation (ha ...) coins from the Vatican. The price is a little higher, I think, than last year: €21 unc. set (max. 85,000) €125 proof set (max. 16,000). ("PS": Note that in 2002 and 2003 the mintage was lower than this year.) @patacon68: Fortunately not every Catholic in the world is interested in these coins On the other hand, many euro collectors who want them are not Catholic or not religious ... 2002-2003 Vatican Euro Coins The 2002 sets are very difficult to get at the moment. This is not the area to offer items for sale.
One more comment on the reason why the Vatican sets are more expensive than, say, the Irish mint sets. ALL Vatican euros are in the mint and proof sets. Tere are no Vatican coins struck for circulation as I understand it. With Ireland, on the other hand, you can buy aftermarket mint sets made from uncirculated coins from rolls or bags.
