Just picked up my first Flying Eagle! Any opinions on it? Is it quality enough to have it graded?

Hi gbroke - its a digital photograph, just took it this morning. Sony a57 camera with an old (and I mean *old*) Minolta 100m f/2.8 macro lens.

Well, here is my opinion on it, for what it's worth.

First off, it appears to have F-15/VF-20 details.
That would make the value not high enough to cover the certification costs.
Now, that's if the coin is problem free.

To me, it appears it has been cleaned and/or taken a light polish. An early copper with that wear shouldn't have that look to it. It seems glossy to me.
Some of the surfaces look to smooth to be all original circulated wear. I also don't know if those marks across the obverse would be considered damage.

I am far from an expert and have upwards of 4 FE's in my collection, but that's my first opinion.

PS: I asked about scan vs. image because that helps me to interpret the coin color, luster and wear better.

Thanks Greg - great answer, I appreciate the advice! I guess this will just go into a flip.

I joined PCGS last fall and can get 4 coins graded as part of the subscription. Talk about indecision....!

That is a tough decision I'm sure. You want your first submissions to go great.
Getting back 4 body-bagged coins certainly wouldn't encourage you to send more in lol.

I'm not to much into capped stuff but I figured for ten bucks why not

You can't afford not to buy a capped bust dime like that for $10.

I agree. I didn't even notice the plug right away looking through the glass at the store, only the price. And for a plugged coin I don't think it is to bad.

not bad to put in collection, but would never scale grade, because of the plug !
