Hello - new member jdarne01 here seeking help from experienced members in this field. A collector of U.S. coins/currency primarily for nearly 50 yrs., recently acquired a small collection of "mainly" Canadian and British coins from the mid-1800's and early 1900's but also a few from Russia, Spain,France, Luxembourg, and Newfoundland, but also a couple I have no clue on because they don't bear dates, crowns, head of states, or any other identifier I'm familiar with. After reviewing Krause World Coin catalogs, the "closest" I can guess on the one "Arabic-looking" crude hammered coin sort of resembles (to me) some I've reviewed in the Indian Princely States section. The coin appears to be made of either copper or bronze, is "about the size" of a U.S. nickle, only thicker in crude hammered form. I'm surmising that since the collection was primarily made up of British and Canadian coins, this one I can't identify may be of Indian heritage, when it was ruled by the Briitish. The other mystery coin (may be gold) as it is yellowish in color, is "about the size of" a U.S. trime, is quite thin, worn almost smooth with no marks on one side, with undistinguishable small marks on the other nearly worn smooth, with a weight of 1.6 grams. Any assistance in helping me identify these 2 coins would be greatly appreciated. Also, I don't know how to send pics..... Thanks to all.
There's quite a few ways to post pics here. Read this thread, it will explain - http://www.cointalk.com/t8565/
Thank you very much for your reply- after reading it noticed other references in "similar threads" below and by going to them, led me to worldcoingallery.com, which ultimately lead me to identifying one of the previously unidentifided coins. Making good progress here- so glad I found this forum. You've made my day.............
