I wasn't sure whether to post this in the US Coins or the World Coins section. George T. Morgan, who designed the Morgan dollar was an Englishman who was originally with the Royal Mint. Are there any British coins whose design is attributable to Morgan?
I didn't know that George T. Morgan was an Englishman. As far as I know, there weren't any British coins that were designed by him. Aidan.
Well George T. Morgan didn't design any himself but he was trained under one of the Wyons (be it William or Leonard Charles), so he did work on some of the circulating coinage of Victoria's reign, stuff like Bun Head pennies being the most likely candidates. That and Victorian Young Head coinage.
I wouldn't really be too suprised really. Take it this way, most of the world's brilliant coin designs are actually originate from Europe, particually countries that had plenty of immigrants like US, Canada, Australia, etc. Think about this way - 100 to 200 years ago, what did it take to become an American, Canadian, Australian, etc? Well this might be pushing it closer to debates but what my point is, the further you push the history of such coin designs of such countries with plenty of immigrants, they had to come somewhere else especially when the countries didn't have such a long history.
