I recall this conversation on collectors.com about potential counterfeits of 1914 large size $100 notes (http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=23&threadid=771515) Here's some documents from the secret service: Based on this guide, I found a counterfeit for sale on HA.com: http://currency.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=348&lotNo=18217 Compared to a supposedly authentic note: http://currency.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=354&lotNo=16855#Photo There have been some theories about secretive government operations because the inks and paper are identical to the real thing, and the craftsmanship is exceptional with only minor design differences like those above. Has any new information surfaced about these?
This is very interesting, could one of these get through a grading co......real paper and ink, what would stop these notes. I purchased a ungraded 1914 $10 on ebay about 6 months ago, it was a great buyitnow price and a gem note. I compare it to my 1914 $5 and $20 and it looks great, but for some reason I get this sick feeling in my stomach that it is counterfeit. It just seems too perfect, the corners are sharp and the paper has absolutely no wave. The paper, ink, security fibers are perfect. Your post is scaring me, have you heard of any $10's being counterfeited. I hope not.
