1990 lincoln cent with interesting date. please help

    i don't know what is going here. the side of the 2nd 9 and the inside of the 0. plus it almost looks like the 9's are split? advice appreciated

    MDD, I don't know if that would be considered die deterioration.

    I'd call it die deterioration doubling.

    What's the difference between die deterioration doubling and MDD?

    MDD, in your case, I would think stands for machine doubling damage. The coin above shows a mix of die wear and plating issues. Die deterioration doubling is caused by he overuse of dies, whereas machine doubling is a different anomaly.

    while i am here i should ask...if a coin had a die shift what would it look like?

    What do you mean a die shift? Machine doubling? Misaligned die? Struck off-center?

    i don't even know if it is possible because i don't i don't know much about the minting process...but is it possible that when it is struck, the planchet shifts creating like a streak i guess? not sure how to properly explain what i am trying to ask.

    Aright, I think what you are referring to is slide-type machine doubling. This is caused when the coin is struck, and the dies "skip" and/or drag on the coin, creating a streaking effect.
