i have found 2 each 1998 wam and 2 each 2000 wam cents. what are my chances of finding a 1999? what about finding a 1992/1992 d cam? are they out there? also i have never found a 1984 double ear cent, are they out there? or am i wasting my time looking at 92's, 99's and 84's?
Since others have found them, the obvious answer is yes even though this is not a common occurrence. Depends on your reason for searching and what you consider wasted time to be. If hoping to find for profit, then yes... you are likely wasting time, but if you're having fun and enjoy the search, I would think it is time well spent.
I don't think you are wasting your time searching if you truly want to find one. Granted, you will have to go through a lot of cents, but people do find 1999 WAMs every once in a while, the 1984 doubled earlobe less often than that, and the 1992 being the hardest to come by.
i guess i should not have said "waste of time"....i enjoy coin searching and have found many interesting coins. i don't look for anything i need more than a loupe to see. i WILL keep looking.
I've thought the same thing myself. I like looking through the 92's, 98-00's, as well as the 84's but I gotta say; going through the 95's really kills me. Then I read on another thread where someone has found 3 DDO's in a super short period of time. That makes me keep going.
Your ahead of me I've gone through boxes and boxes of pennies and as yet have only found 1 wam 2000 but I keep trying (about a box of rolls a month)
They're definitely out there, it just depends how much you plan on searching. Since 2011 I've found 6 1998 WAMS, 8 2000 WAMS, about a dozen indian heads, a flying eagle, a few 5-10% off centers, a 1909 VDB, 1909 S, even a 3 cent nickel from 1869 was mixed in a cwr I got. I haven't found any 99 WAMS, 84 DDO, or 92/92-D CAMS though. Maybe some day I'll get lucky yet again I found a 1972 type 2 ike in MS just last week!
