Here's a link to the thread about the three coins I submitted. http://www.cointalk.com/t218423/ This is what I was thinking/hoping for: Franklin: 65 FBL Jefferson: 66 Washington: 65/66* This is what they graded: Franklin: 64 FBL Jefferson: 66 Washington: 65 No star!
Not to hijack your thread but...I know very little about modern coins and toning. My question is what the threshold is to get the star? To me the quarter is obviously toned and attractively so too. So what does it take to get that star?
The NGC * is for outstanding eye appeal within the grade. For the WQ shown, I would not have thought it would receive the * designation, but that is simply my opinion based upon the images.
Outstanding huh? That is pretty darn vague, especially for a subject so commonly argued about and is very subjective.
It is very vague and subjective, just like some grading standards. I will say, that I have seen very few * coins that I did not agree with.
I especially like that 39 D with the steps of 1938. Did they designate that it was TY1? I also think that the Franklin should have gone higher, I don't see any issues at all.
