I saw that Platinum is taking a larger dip here----when I got on the computer today I saw this... :hammer: :rolling: :rolling: :computer: I'm glad I don't have any of it! Speedy
Good info. Going from memory, a very dangerous thing, I believe that occasionally platinum gets pretty close to the price of gold, and that's a good time to buy it.
Hey guy's hold on to your shorts. Kitco is famous for errors in thew overnight spreads. Plat is @ ~ 1085. 00 oz RickieB
Howdy all, Indeed, be careful with Kitco early in the morning. Within the past week they had an early error on silver showing it off over $1.20. Right now, they're showing platinum at -65.00 to 998. Earlier they had it at 859 in error and palladium was at 253 whereas at this moment it's at 314. I love Kitco during the day for spot prices, XAU, and the ratios. However, early in the morning, if somethiing terribly, terribly wrrrrroooooonnnggggg . . . it probably is. peace, rono
one of my local coin dealers/metal dealers posts the previous days close, and thats what they go by. Seems a more sane way to trade it "metal in hand"
Let's just say that was true and platinum dropped $200 in one day. What would cause such a huge drop in price? Certainly demand just doesn't fall that quickly and that much in a 24hr period. Then again we are talking about basically the stock market.....nothing makes sense.
Oops!......well I guess this is about the first time I've ever heard of them being bad in the morning!...that is about the first place I go when the computer turns on! Speedy
Hi Speedy, Yeah, kitco is where I go first thing. They normally have much more accurate spot quotes than early morning bloomberg or cnbc. They also show the other metals, XAU and the ratios. I realize that my speculation in the precious metals is not really tied hand and foot to collecting. However, there is such an impact that it's hard to ignore. and so it goes, rono
Platinum I guess the market for precious metals will always fluctuate with all commodities that trade globally. My personal hope is that the coins are also appreciated for their historic and esthetic worth , which should have greater staying power than the markets ups and downs. iskaroll
This was an error, and happens frequently with Kitco. When something really doesn't look right (like one metal falling 20+ percent in ten seconds) it's best to check spot prices another site like APMEX.
Yes, I logged in this morning when it was "down" $204. I almost posted it here, but figured that there had to be a mistake... hoping that it wasn't though. Would have been enough for me to consider buying my first platinum coin.
Here's an article from Forbes, while we're discussing spot. http://www.forbes.com/markets/feeds/afx/2006/10/24/afx3115065.html
