I have a coworker who has $50.00 face value in wheat pennies and said that she would be willing to sell them at 4¢ each. Do you guys think this is a good investment for $200?
Ask her what kind of dates and what condition are most of them in. I would pay 4 cents all day for extremely fine teens (sounds funny). I wouldn't even be interested in common dates at that price.
Unless you can look through and confirm there's some good finds in there, then no, $100 for bulk unseen should be your limit.
most dealers i've seen sell them for 3 to 4 cents each. i do not think it is a terrible price, but not a deal either.
Ask for a sample of 100 or 250 @ 4 cents. Then you can exam to your heart's content before offering on the rest. That way, you will either buy the rest or have a honest excuse to refuse her price and make an offer that you will feel good about. Worse case , it costs you a couple of bucks. Jim
desertgem's idea seems plausible and fair enough. Personally I think 4 cents isn't a bad deal...I'm curious as to what exactly people expect to find at 4 cents a coin, and where they're finding bulk sellers at $100 a bag because as a dealer I pay more than that- as long as they aren't bent, dirty or green. I also find it amusing how people complain about searched rolls and bags yet expect to be able to search lots themselves before buying.
