I would agree this is a lovely AU 53 IMO. Just do a search of completed auctions to find a reasonable price range.
I think it has been cleaned at one point. But it may still get into a problem free holder. Nice coin!
Definitely wiped at some point, but has re-toned nicely. Tough call on whether it'd grade or not. I'm at 51/49... the 51% chance being it wouldn't grade, but I'm a pessimist...
It's got some hairlines and is a bit lighter than I would expect, but unless there are nasty surprises hidden within the image this is a coin that I think would grade cleanly.
Just looking at the pics I could kind of go either way. The thing that I am thinking about is the lack of luster in the open fields. There seems to be plenty of luster everywhere else - but there. And if you look at the devices, there just doesn't seem to be enough wear on them to justify that much of a lack of luster in the open fields. Now would that luster show up better if I had the coin in hand ? Maybe. And if it did then my concerns would be quieted. But if it didn't ..............
Hard to tell from the photos provided, so unless its from a trusted dealer, I would pass on it. Edited to add: I'm not a gambler.
I agree. Nice coin, but I would like to see under a loupe if the open fields had taken any hits from cleaning. Pretty coin either way, and even if it did have some marks I would still consider it a desirable coin. That is exactly the coin I was chasing after for about 10 years when I collected US coins.
