Pretty much I'm new to paper money collecting and there is a note I have my eye on. Pmg55 with small internal tear. Otherwise the note looks unc. What does that mean exactly. Is it noticeable when held up to light? Or clearly visible just looking at it ? Or something only pros can see. I have no interest about resale value. This is just for me. What is an internal tear?

An internal tear is a tear that does not touch the edge of the note. An example might be the center of the note where the note was folded over and over and over and the paper weakened where the note had been folded to the point that it finally came apart.

It is a tear in the note that does not involve the edge. You might be able to see it with or without back light depending on its size.

Here's the link to ebay. What do you think? Should I skip over it, I'm looking to get a decent deal on something that would turn other people off, but I don't want something's obviously visible. the thing that bothers me about that auction is that it doesn't mention the damage. yes i know they have a picture of it but honestly from my experience is people don't always look at all the pictures.

Interesting that there is no NET designation on that holder. Kinda pricey for something with an internal tear that has the words Speelman and White on it...

Anytime that you look at any notes, stamps, bonds, stocks papers. Hold it up, to a good light and look for any holes, tears, folds, spots, water marks, and security tapes. Hold the note also on it's edge to the light and look for folds, creases. Look for anything in and on the paper, that doesn't look right. By doing this, you will have a better understanding of what you are looking at. It does take time to master. Good luck.:)
