Thought you might be interested in this photo taken at the ANA Show in Denver last August. It is a display of the 10 recently "discovered" Double Eagles. Here is the description:
"In the photo: Steve Contursi, left, president of Rare Coin Wholesalers, eyes a few rarities that he doesn’t own – the 10 1933 $20s – on display at the ANA show. Other viewers are visible through the glass of the display, the construction of which made it possible to see both sides of all 10 pieces."
I just wish there were close-ups.
A bit of trivia I found while searching for pictures of these pieces.Did you know that the only known $20 1933 Saint, you know, the $7.59 million one,sat in the Treasury vault in the World Trade Center but was tranferred to Ft. Knox two months before the towers were destroyed?
Here's the complete story on all 11 coins:( (although I guess there were actually 12 if you count the one that's owned by the Smithsonian)

Neat, but there are those who would claim it being moved is proof of a government conspiracy....

Indeed there are. I bet the owner of that coin is a freemason.

I'm guessing that there are more than 11 out there... perhaps we'll never know.

    One is still unaccounted for....

Allison Frankel, author of Double Eagle, and I have cooresponded in regards to her book and on this matter of the 10... the 1 that sold... AND the one still out there..

    :)

Funny how coins that the MINT and Government KNOWS were stolen on purpose are still LEGAL to own.

In the most recent issue of Coinage, there's an article regarding the '33 Double Eagles. It speculates that there might be 10 more or so in European hands. Regarding that display shown in the picture, it says that the coins sit in a sheet of plexiglass with holes in it for the coins that's sandwiched between two pieces of bulletproof Lexan.

Just in case someone wanted to shoot one of them I guess.

And the Smithsonian has 2 specimens not one.
