Was searching through a box of cents that I got from the bank and came across this one. Looks like maybe something got in the way of the die? Not sure what you'd call this kind of error-damage.

Two different angles of the coin.

I personally think it is PMD/ Bag Marks.

Seems like it would take a lot of pressure for some other coins in a bag to do that much damage. I'll see what other people think too. Either way I am keeping it and throwing it in with the other stuff I keep.

I would also call it damage. The way the metal has a "shaven off" appearance is a clear indication of PMD. :smile
    Keep up the hunt!

Perhaps it was struck through a foreign object during the minting process.

If it was struck through a foreign object, the coin would not have a "shaven" appearance like you see in the images. You can see the effect best on the nose.

I love finding weird damage on coins while hunting and thinking "How the heck did this happen?"I usually keep them because i'm a hoarder.

Here is one that I found.

The damage on the rim at 2 o'clock where metal is pushed out past the perimeter of the coin says it's PMD.

PMD, you can see some metal displacement.

The car in this photo has been damaged. Some outside force acted on the car. Either the car hit something or something hit the car. The car did not leave the factory in that condition.

Like the car your coin is damaged. Some outside force acted on your coin. Your coin did not leave the Mint in that condition.

Ok, how's this for a stretch? This is an actual cent bag(something else I collect)from '73. Gives "bag marks" a whole new meaning.

Not really a new meaning! We see bag marks all the time on coins with textile toning.

I collect bags, too........those that held coins and those under my eyes.

Hobo, why don't you just admit that you forgot to move your car before you cut that big limb off the tree.

I think the cent in the OP is the one that Arnold had in his pocket when he had his fist fight with "The Predator"

    OP, its a damaged coin..

Damage smamage I don't care and I like it so it goes in the bag with other weird stuff. But it's nice to know how it was probably done. I got a couple more boxes of cents coming at the bank next Wed so I will have plenty to keep me busy for a few days.
