I was wondering what this 1964 Kennedy half dollar was worth. The reverse suffers corrosion from the tape that kept it in place in a card holder. Should we try acetone, or leave as is?
Try dripping acetone onto the problem areas on the reverse. If that doesn't work, then leave it as it is. Nice coin
It's worth $11.51 for its silver content. An acetone bath wouldn't hurt, but it's the kind of coin only stackers are interested in, and they generally don't care about a condition.
A little more than melt on the 'Bay. I didn't realize how many UGLY Kennedy toners there were out there until I did a quick search. The OP's coin is a true beauty compared to some. Here's a typical one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Very-Cool-Toned-1964-P-Kennedy-Half-Dollar-Silver-US-Coin-MS-/200768669093?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item2ebebec5a5 And here's an MS-65 that you can barely see hiding under all that toning: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-D-Kenn...56?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item48501a9d88
I'm thinking about buying it from my friend. I've begun to collect Kennedies in hopes of one day having a complete collection. What would be a reasonable offer be since he hasn't seen a dealer yet? I want to give him a fair price.
Offer your buddy $10. It's just worth melt, I toss back tons of MS '64's from my dealers junk bins all the time.
Shoot. You guys know how hard it was to get one of these things when I was a kid? The banks sold out of them completely........everyone wanted a '64, me included. Looking back, I should have opted for the Corvette........
I have a MS-65 1964 kenndy and its nice, redbook says its wortha bit more than melt, in that condition. 17 bucks.
Lol wut? Ofcourse its worth melt, I have a MS-65 in my own collection,if you didnt see that in my last post.:dead-horse:
RedBook is irrelevant with the idiotic pricing they use. A raw MS65 '64 Ken is worth maybe a buck over melt.
Only? And why do you say RedBook has ridiculous pricing. And, it is in a 2x2 coin folder, for protection pourposes, I paid 15 for it a year ago, I didnt know what it was worth. And knowadays I will buy ay silver containig coin for just under melt if Im lucky.
When you were a kid? I thought back in those days you could have gotten a '16-D from the bank I'm just joking, you know I love messing with you though!
Redbooks pricing sucks. It's a fact, and a well-known one. I'm not going to explain further, that's just the way it is... you probably paid $15 for it a year ago because spot was probably higher then, maybe in the $38-$40 range.
