Has much more of a red color to it in low light but looks golden in the light. Any thoughts on how high this would grade or what it could possibly be worth? Yes this is the coin i have on hand and it is marked with vdb
The thing is with the 1909 vdb is that they were saved early on and many today exist in high grades. I suck at grading copper but if this is any help my dad bought one that looks exactly like yours for $25 a few months ago.
Not a full red example and I would instead say it's an red-brown (RB) coin. From the photos I don't see why it wouldn't grade MS63RB or MS64RB. I would guess the value to be between $25 and $35 if you found someone looking for an example just like that.
I found one of these in a bin of cents at a flea market in West Virginia, got it for 50 cents. The vendor didn't know it was a V.D.B. My local coin shop here in Baltimore offers $9 for it. Mine has a ding on the rim though.
It looks like wear in the right wheat stalk on the reverse to me. It's hard to tell from the images, but I would be surprised if this coin graded MS.
I don't know how someone could say that without actually seeing the coin. A small difference in quality can change the value. Just a thought.
Next time, crop your pictures and take them straight over the coin. It's impossible to accurately grade your coin from those pics, all that we can say is that it's between AU and MS....about a $15-20 coin.
I agree with the RB - at first I was all about a 63...but BadThad's images made me think more like AU. Nice coin and I wish I had one!
