I'm looking to understand some of the terms used... for instance

    Lincoln cent 1972-D MDO-001. What is MDO-001?

    What exactly does CUD mean?

    Thank you.

Those are error coin terms. If you don't get an answer here (which you probably will) open your red book and there is a whole chapter on error coins and those two terms are covered and many more you haven't encountered yet.

Yes, still need to get a Red Book.

Many times I can figure out a term on my own... I think. For example, I've assumed that DDO means Doubled Die Obverse. MDO I'm thinking is maybe Misaligned Die Obverse or something similar? I guess this because I encounter a great deal of 1972-Ds that are slightly off center on the obverse, but just looking to know for sure.

I think MDO stands for Master Die Doubling. The best definition I can give you for a cud is a raised lump of metal on a coin caused by a piece of a die breaking off. Here's an example.

Yes, you are correct about the "cud".

Here are some commonly used abbreviations, including "MDO".

    Thanks B12 and Jody.

That link is very helpful. If nothing else, I know the full term to google if I can't figure it out myself.
