I really would like to find a copy of this book for myself. I've googled it for weeks, and haven't found but one seller, for well over $1,000. Is there a numismatic resource I'm overlooking where I can go to get this? http://www.alibris.com/stores/broad...f+coinmaking:+a+history+of+minting+technology $483 posts from the UK
This place has it for about $275 USD http://dymasia.com/store.asp?storeAction=showCartContents Now its not showing up anymore - I dunno ??
How did I not find this in my searchings??? Thanks so much. I'm thinking about it . . a little high . . . .
Well I just went back & looked & it isnt showing up for me - sorry maybe some one snaked it after the last post -
I own this book and at $275 the price is not a little high. It is a tough book and a very good book. Mine was purchased years ago and I think I paid about $150 from a seller in England, but would not want to have to find another for that small of a sum.
I know $275 is not high for the book, but it's high for me. While I was debating the purchase, it dissappeared, so I think someone likely jumped on my procrastination - good for them, a great buy. I'd love to find one for my personal collection.
I got mine back in 2001, while it was still in print. I think it was $80 at the time. It is still the best book extant on explaining some of the processes and is a precious resource here at the mint. We frequently refer to things like: "Well, Cooper on page 163 suggests a 146 degree angle for a hobbing cone..." (btw, the 146 degree angle is ideal for most die-work, though after experimentation we sometimes use a steeper or shallower angle depending on the depth of relief needed) I made a request to the publisher to reprint (no reply) and then made a formal request for permission to scan (no reply). I think it would be worthwhile scanning and converting to pdf simply to make the information accessible to more people. By the way, even if your library does not own a copy, you can always request one through interlibrary loan! Often the librarians will not offer that to you (because it's extra work for them) but if you request it, they will get a copy in for you.
