    Hi all,

Was hoping to get an opinion about this Dollar. It is a 1934-S Peace. I will try to describe it as well as post the scans.

The scan of the obverse is pretty accurate. There are traces of luster in the fields very close to the devices... I hope I am using the correct terms, this is all pretty new to me... that you can't see in the scan. Between the 9 and the 3 are marks that appear to be slight pits in the surface. The other black marks at the top of the coin appear to be dirt... maybe I'll get some Comet and a Brillo pad and see if I can get that off... Don't shoot! It's a joke. On the rim above the B in LIBERTY is a small raised area. It's more pronounced in person... looks like maybe the coin was dropped on its edge and pushed the metal up, but I haven't taken it out of its 2x2 to check the edge out.

The reverse scan is also fairly accurate... again, small bits of luster remain, but not much. The spot above the A in DOLLAR came from the scanner and is not on the coin and the mark on the rim just to the right of that is a small tear in the mylar of the 2x2 and is not on the coin. The only other thing that I can add is that UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM are fully visible in person but very weak in the areas they don't show in the scan.

I wouldn't bother asking for an opinion on this coin if it weren't a 34-s, but I'd like to know what you guys think given the problems that it has.

    Thanks for your time.

    Hello, I'd say it's a G-8 or F-10...

I would say F-12, if the reverse wasn't so weak. So I'm gonna agree with Bonedigger on the grade. But, since its a 34-S, its still worth maybe, $35.00.

Thanks for your input. That's about what I figured. It was being presented as VF, but I didn't think it would go that high. I bid it up to $25 with shipping included and got it. It's my first Key/Semi Key acquisition. Either way, I'm happy to have it.

I'd also like to say that this is a great forum. There's a lot of very helpful people here and a lot of my questions have been answered in just reading over the past two days. Great job, all.

The obverse looks F and the reverse looks VG to me. $25 was a good price.
