4 or 5 years ago when going through pocket change, I found a Roosevelt dime that was a 200 (last number missing) D. dime. I looked on the internet for weeks and found nothing about it, then today when looking through my change, I found another one, identical to the first. Again I looked on the net and found an article that said there were some for sale on ebay and that it was a grease filled die that caused the last number not to stamp. Does any have any idea of how many of these there are and if it has any worth? I will try to enclose the picture if I can. Thank you
Yes, it was struck by a grease filled die and no, no one knows how many there are, but the are not rare and valuable by any means. (Unless most of the coin is involved) Keep up the hunt, you'll eventually find something worthwhile. Welcome to CT. You can always come here to ask any questions you may have. There are plenty of good folks here willing to share their knowledge.
Yes, they are common, but I doubt that you will find any stats on them. However, if you happen to find a "James Bond" coin of any denomination, I know of someone in the UK who would like to have one. Chris
Thank you for the info. Thank you also for making me feel welcome. Does the mint do any quality control or inspections to try and keep errors from getting into circulation? I also read somewhere that the Roosevelt dime is (or was) the coin with the fewest errors. Do you know if that is the case?
I got a 200_ P dime, so it seems both mints do this. Don't know if they do any QA/QC on the coins, I would suspect they go through a line, then dumped into bags or a roller for circulation.
Your's is the first time I've heard of a 200 P Roosevelt. And I guess you are right. It would be impossible to inspect every coin and an error wouldn't be spotted unless it was very obvious and maybe not even then.
I found a dime yesterday that I believe is a 2010 P but the date is barely vis so im not sure. I would love to post pics but do not know how, I treid but said can not upload
